Angels Program

Angels are the heartbeat of Red Bird. They are trusted volunteers who help turn donations into real, immediate relief by purchasing and delivering essential items directly to neighbors in crisis.

Trusted Volunteers Making Immediate Impact

All Angels join through referral by existing Angels. We welcome anyone with a steady heart, good judgment, and the ability to follow a clear process. Our system is designed for accountability, safety, and dignity for everyone involved.

What Angels Can Help With

Angels may support several programs, each designed to address specific needs in our community.

Safe Parking Outreach

Business partner support including flyers, signage, and program awareness to create safe spaces for neighbors living in vehicles.

Secret Santa

Year-round gifting for verified neighbors who deserve something beyond necessities, bringing joy and dignity to those in need.

Tent Camp Outreach

Basic supplies, hygiene items, seasonal necessities, and information about available help for unsheltered neighbors.

Sponsor a Neighbor

Ongoing support for a specific verified neighbor as the program goes live, building lasting relationships and sustained help.

General Crisis Requests

Food, clothing, work supplies, transportation support, and personal care items for immediate crisis situations.

Community Resources

Downloadable flyers and program materials to share Red Bird safely and appropriately in the community.

Safety First: Vetting + Background Checks

To protect the neighbors we serve, the Angels program uses a strict vetting process. All Angels must be vetted by an existing Angel, complete a short screening, provide a copy of their driver’s license, and pass a basic criminal background check before they can accept requests. There is no cost to volunteers for this background check. We do this to help keep homeless encampments safe, protect our neighbors in crisis, and maintain the integrity of every delivery and interaction.

Gas Support Available

Some deliveries include gas support, and others do not. We maintain a general Angel Gas Fund that helps offset driving costs when donations allow. Gas support is not guaranteed, but we work hard to support Angels whenever possible. Angels can also choose local pickup options when a delivery would be too far.

How It Works

As an Angel, you will create an account, choose requests you can realistically fulfill, and coordinate follow-through from start to finish.

1
Create your Angel accountOnce approved, you’ll have access to open requests and Angel tools. You can choose how you want to be notified: email, SMS, or both. You will receive alerts when new requests are posted, when urgent needs come in, and when sponsors fund items that need pickup or delivery.
2
Choose a request you can completeAngels take only what they can realistically handle. When you select a request, you’re agreeing to follow through, communicate clearly, and close the request properly once it is delivered or completed. If you need to release a request due to an emergency or schedule change, you must notify us immediately so another Angel can step in.
3
Funding and reimbursementsSome requests are funded directly through the foundation, and others are fulfilled by an Angel who is reimbursed. Depending on the program and the request type, funds may be distributed through Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, PayPal, or other approved methods. For certain urgent needs, Angels may receive funds up front. In other cases, Angels may purchase the item and submit proof for reimbursement.
4
Purchase and coordinate deliveryAngels purchase the item(s) exactly as requested or as approved by Red Bird. Then the Angel coordinates pickup with the donor first, then drop-off for the requester, using the safest method available. Whenever possible, we prioritize public locations, partner businesses, and other safe handoff points. For tent camps and outreach situations, Angels follow outreach guidelines and prioritize safety first. Only some angels will be cleared to do outreach in encampments.
5
Close the request with proofClosing a request is important. It is how donors receive updates, how we track impact, and how we prevent confusion or duplication. Closing typically includes a quick confirmation note and proof of delivery (photo of items at drop-off, receipt, or other verification depending on the request). Requests that cannot be verified will not be considered complete. Repeated non-closure can be grounds for removal from the program.
