The People Helping Carry the Work Forward
Red Bird began as a family mission rooted in loss, love, and the determination to help others survive the kinds of crisis no family should have to face alone. Today, that mission continues through local volunteer coordination and support, donor partnerships, and direct help for neighbors facing urgent hardship.
Behind each request is a real person. Behind each response are coordinators, donors, and volunteer Angels working together to move help quickly, carefully, and with dignity.
Nichole Broach
Coordinator, The Red Bird Foundation, Inc.
Founder | Angel Volunteer
Nichole’s work with Red Bird is deeply personal. After losing her brothers Christopher in 2015 and Charlie in 2018 to the opioid epidemic, Nichole and her family chose to turn grief into a lifeline for others. The Red Bird Foundation was founded in 2018 to honor the lives they lost and to support individuals and families still fighting through addiction, homelessness, hardship, and crisis.
That same year, Nichole earned her Associate Degree in Substance Abuse/Addiction Counseling from Trident Technical College, strengthening her commitment to helping others find hope, healing, and lasting recovery.
As a coordinator, Nichole helps carry Red Bird’s mission forward through direct communication, request support, donor coordination, community care, and hands-on outreach. Her work is rooted in compassion, lived loss, and the belief that people deserve help before crisis becomes tragedy.

Theresa Kelly
Coordinator, The Red Bird Foundation, Inc.
Resource Coordination | Homeless Mentorship | Spiritual Crisis Support | Webmaster
Theresa coordinates Red Bird locally and helps connect neighbors in urgent need with local donors, volunteer Angels, and practical resources. Her work includes crisis navigation, homeless mentorship, resource coordination, and, when requested, spiritual support for those moving through overwhelming seasons of life.
Theresa has been offering spiritual crisis support for over 25 years. Her commitment to this work is rooted in lived experience, long-term sobriety, years of support-group participation, chronic illness, disability, and a deep understanding of how difficult it can be to find help when someone is scared, sick, unhoused, overwhelmed, or out of options.
I have found myself on more than one occasion in crisis in my life due to my health, but there ways always someone there to catch me before I fell. Not everyone is that lucky, so I do my best now to make sure that they are.
She was homeless as a teenager, has been sober for more than 20 years, and has spent much of her life working, volunteering, creating, and helping others in one form or another. After surviving a major hemorrhagic stroke and several mini-strokes, Theresa shifted away from much of the academic and creative work she had once done and began offering reduced-cost and pro bono website services for nonprofits.
I first met Nichole a year after my stroke and I was unable to get to my neurology appointment accross town. She offered to take me, and I got to that appointment because of her unconditional kindness.
That work eventually helped open the door for her to Red Bird. In 2025, Theresa developed the idea for Red Bird’s current service website, a website-based system designed to connect local people with critical and urgent needs to donors and volunteer delivery drivers who can help quickly. Theresa built and coded the RedBird website from scratch as a volunteer over the course of 6 months. The system is now in beta testing and has many additions to come in the future.
