Help That Goes Beyond a Donation

Red Bird does more than post requests and collect donations. Many people contact us overwhelmed, frightened, discouraged, or unsure where to begin. Some are crying when they call. Others have already contacted multiple agencies and still do not understand what help may be available to them.

We take the time to listen.

We reached out to people who submitted requests and offered continued assistance with:

How We Help

  • Resource coordination and referrals
  • Job searches and employment planning
  • Résumé writing and improvement
  • Troubleshooting transportation, documentation, housing, and application barriers
  • Completing applications for benefits, programs, employment, and community assistance
  • Identifying realistic next steps when traditional resources were unavailable
  • Emotional support during moments of fear, grief, exhaustion, and uncertainty

Sometimes the most important thing we could provide was not an item or a payment. It was a calm voice on the telephone, someone willing to listen without judgment, and reassurance that the person had not been forgotten.

For many of the people who contact Red Bird, one conversation is not enough. We remain a continuing source of encouragement and practical guidance as they work through complicated situations. We help them reconsider options, solve new problems as they arise, and keep moving forward when they feel like giving up.

What Community Support Made Possible

Through our online requests and our work behind the scenes, donors and volunteers helped neighbors obtain:

Direct Help Provided

  • Urgently needed medications and medical supplies
  • Beds and bedding for people rebuilding after homelessness
  • Food for families, seniors, and people in recovery
  • Transportation to work and essential appointments
  • Work shoes, uniforms, and documents needed to begin employment
  • Emergency shelter and camping supplies
  • Diapers, wipes, hygiene products, and household necessities
  • Bicycle repairs for someone whose bicycle was his only transportation
  • Five window air-conditioning units for families and elderly couples
  • Guidance, applications, résumés, job leads, and individualized resource coordination
  • Compassion and continued hope during deeply difficult moments

Every request represents a person, not merely a number. A bus pass can protect a survivor’s new job. A birth certificate can remove the final barrier to employment. A soft bed can give a disabled woman relief after years of sleeping in her car. An air conditioner can protect an elderly couple from dangerous heat. A patient conversation can help someone who feels defeated see that there may still be another path forward.
